John Sweeney
John joined Baratta, Russell & Baratta in 2018 as an Associate Attorney in the Estate Planning department. John is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
A lifelong Philadelphian, John obtained his B.A., magna cum laude, from Temple University in 2006. He was also a member of the National Political Honors Society, Pi Sigma Alpha. John then attended Widener University School of Law (now Delaware Law School) where he earned his J.D. in 2011.
While at Widener, John was an active member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and served as the Vice President of Interscholastic Competitions while in his final year. He was also sent to represent Widener at the Tulane University Mardi Gras Invitational Sports Law Competition, in both 2010 and 2011. His teams made the semi-finals and the quarter finals, respectively.
John began his legal career in 2012 with Wolf & Brown, a Social Security disability and veterans disability firm in southern New Jersey. There, John practiced exclusively in the area of Social Security disability, helping disabled workers secure much deserved disability payments in the form of SSD and SSI. He was also the attorney responsible for handling the children’s SSI cases. While at the firm, he also worked with South Jersey Legal Services to assist indigent clients with their children’s SSI cases.
In 2017, John joined the Augulis Law Firm in Warren, New Jersey, where he expanded his practice repertoire to include estate planning, powers of attorney, gifting strategies, and elder law issues. John brings with him a strong knowledge of Estate planning, Social Security and Elder Law. He is a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, as well as the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).
